Pit Stop tells the story of Glen who is on the run from the police. Shortly after crossing the border, his car runs out of fuel and he has to continue his way on foot to the nearest gas station. Here he meets the young boy who's been left in charge of the gas station by his father. Assuming the boy is alone, Glen decides to try and outsmart him and get the keys of the station owner's old pick-up truck parked up behind the gas station. However, the boy isn't nearly as gullible as Glen expected...This was a very enjoyable read; well written and quite suspenseful. I believe the story would benefit from some further editing as there was the odd grammatical error but the main thing which bothered me was the flashback. I was halfway through the flashback before realising it was a flashback and it left me rather confused for a bit. Though it obviously takes a lot of skill from the author to convey his story so well in so few words, I believe a few extra words would have been beneficial and would have made the story much clearer.
In general I found this a good read, but at the end I found myself asking: Who or what is Marla?
Recommendation: You may like this book if you like books such as The Shining.
